We are happy to announce you that GCF and GFR(Graduate school of Global Food Resources) in collaboration with the Hokkaido Wine Education and Research Centre and the Hokkaido Prime Bio Community, will be hosting the International Symposium for “Wine and Food Gastronomy:FOOD and Terroir” on 7–8 September (Monday–Tuesday).

The symposium will be held at the Hotel New Otani Inn Sapporo (Sapporo City) on the first day (7 September), whilst the second day (8 September) will consist of an excursion to Yoichi and Niki towns.

The symposium on the first day offers a valuable opportunity to enjoy lectures on wine and food by guests from Japan and abroad, with simultaneous interpretation provided. Whilst this is certainly a highlight, the main attraction is the practical wine and food pairing session. At the networking event on the first day, chefs from hotels and other establishments in Sapporo will present dishes paired with wines made from Hokkaido’s six main grape varieties. In addition to Hokkaido wines supervised by Interlink Japan, ‘Ringo no Hoppe’, an apple juice from Yoichi, will also be served.

On the second day’s excursion, following a tour of the Hokkaido University Fruit Tree Garden and the Niki Hills vineyards, we will host a wine and lunch event at Hirakawa Winery. The programme includes a lunch featuring pairings of Hirakawa Winery wines with ingredients from Yoichi, the presentation of new desserts made with Yoichi fruit, and the unveiling of the 2025 vintage Hokkaido University wine, produced at Hirakawa Winery. This event is designed to be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in Hokkaido’s wine and cuisine. We warmly invite you to join us.
