【Report 】2024.11.22 Our symposium was ended successfully. Thank you very much for your participation.

We are happy to announce you that GCF will have the International Symposium 2024, Natural resource management as a sustainable global food resource— Lessons from Fisheries in Southeast Asia — as a Special session in the IFS2024.

Fisheries are a crucial source of animal protein, providing 6.9% of the world’s supply, including essential amino acids. They are particularly important for developing coastal regions, supplying both food and employment. In Southeast Asia, fisheries contribute significantly to the diet, with 23.2% of animal protein coming from fish, compared to the global average. Additionally, the region employs 2.2% of its population in fisheries, in contrast to the global average of 0.7%.

With the global population on the rise, concerns about food supply and demand are becoming more pressing. Fisheries, as a limited natural resource, are central to these discussions. Understanding how Southeast Asia manages its fisheries can provide valuable insights into sustainable practices.

The symposium aims to address the critical issue of sustainable fisheries management by learning from Southeast Asia’s experiences. The goal is to develop strategies that ensure the long-term viability of fisheries, contributing to global food security. This event will provide a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration among stakeholders, not only Southeastern fisheries researchers, but also wide range of scholars on the food resources and security.
