We are a cell biology laboratory that is focused on the problem of root-knot nematode parasites in agriculture. Root-knot nematodes are small parasitic worms that attack the roots of many different crops, severely disrupting root function and plant growth. Root-knot nematodes are also fascinating because they are able to specifically modify the function and shape of plant cells. This enables them to remain hidden deep inside plant roots and spend most of their life feeding at one location.
